ATTRACTIONS OF ELEUTHERA
The island of Eleuthera has many attractions. The island is divided into three sections, North, Central and South and there are three islands near by.
Three Islands near Eleuthera are:
Harbour Island
This was the first capital of the Bahamas and one of the major tourist destinations. It is a good place for sight seeing as it possesses rich history and many tourist attractions.
Spanish Wells
Spanish Wells is known as the fishing capital of the Bahamas. Dive for your enjoyment.
Current Island
This is a small island for someone who wants to get away from it all. It’s quiet and allows you to get in touch with nature.
Beaches
The islands of the Bahamas have some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and the island of Eleuthera is no different. The waters are crystal clear, the scenery hard to beat and the weather is always good. Here are just three examples:
Pink sand in Harbour Island and yes the sand is pink
Surfers Beach
Ten Bay in the center of the island
Lighthouse Beach in the south
Caves
The island has two major caves and some smaller ones. There is the magnificent Preacher’s Cave in North Eleuthera; which has very important historical value.
The Hatchet Bay Cave possesses a lot of mystery in its under ground rooms. Formations are exquisite. You will need a good strong flashlight to carry with you. This is just something you have to see for yourself.
Home Comings
Home Comings are annual events held in different settlements where the community invites everyone to come to their settlement to share in music, dance and food along with other entertainment. See boats race in Harbour Island and Palmetto Point homecomings, see Junkanoo rush outs at Governor’s Harbour, Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound, etc.
Fishing
Everyone on the island can fish and if you cannot…throw a line, Spear a fish, (or) catch a crab…. Do not worry, it’s a whole lot more fun learning.
Diving
If you love the sea then Eleuthera is the place to be. Stay cool while seeing fantastic life and formations and answer the mystery of what lies beneath.
Sports
Do you like Softball? Basketball? Or Volleyball? These are three main sports played on the island with soccer becoming the fastest growing sport.
Places to Go & Things to Do
The island has a theatre, many places to eat such as Workers House- for some of the finest buffets in the world at a price you will not find anywhere.
Visit Mate and Jenny’s for pizza and pool playing.
You cannot come to island and not see the Glass Window Bridge especially on a windy day.
If you like houses and mixing with celebrities, you might just get that chance when you tour the houses of celebrities on the island.
Go to the Ocean Hole and feed the fish. This is one of the best places to see the beauty of the creations in the sea without going into the water.
Cruise ships stop at Princess Cays, and visitors spend a day at the beach.
