What Windermere High School is About
In the 1950’s, the Founders of Windermere High School wanted to establish a Christian high school in Eleuthera to meet the educational needs of Bahamian young people. This boarding school was established and has been under the leadership of Gospel Missionary Union, an international, interdenominational Christian Mission, for thirty-five years. As of 2003, the school will under the capable, enthusiastic leadership and sponsorship of Born Again Bahamians known as the Windermere Group. Gospel Missionary Union will continue to work along with the school.
Windermere High School is located in Savannah Sound settlement on Eleuthera Island, Bahamas Island. The school has a beautiful view to the east of the Atlantic Ocean and to the West of the Exuma Sound, part of the Atlantic Ocean. The usual breezes of the Southeast Trade Winds are much appreciated especially on the hot days of summer.
Windermere High School is established to provide quality education in a Christian environment for boys and girls, from grade 7 through 12. Students come as day students and as boarding students. Boarding students who live on Eleuthera go home for weekends, while students from other islands are encouraged to take advantage to be away for mid-term, Christmas and Easter breaks. Dorm parents are there to help meet the student’s needs. Meals are served family style through the dining hall.
Involvement in softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer for fellow and girls is encouraged. Keyboarding and band are available.
The curriculum follows the standards of the Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC- Grade 9 Government exams) and the Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE- Grade 12 Government exams) with other required classes of enrichment.
The Mission Statement of the school is "Making Jesus proud by showing love and respect among staff, students and parents, so that all feel loved through excellence in teaching, learning, caring and working together."
