STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Windermere’s Educational Training is well balanced. It caters to the Spiritual, Educational and Physical aspects of a person. This is reflected in the many and varied activities on and off campus.
STUDENT CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT (SCM) – Where students learn to understand and apply God’s word in a personal and practical way. They learn various crafts and are willing to sacrifice after school time to visit others less fortunate than themselves.
CHEERLEADING TEAM – Young people learn to work together in unity as they encourage and cheer on their school team. This is a very disciplined activity and requires many hours of after school participation.
PANTOMIME – A way of praise to God in physical and emotional expressions. Teaches discipline and unity. It is also a way of relieving mental and emotional stress, which Satan tries to entrench upon you.
MUSIC – Music is known as the universal Language. Here at Windermere, this language is expressed in drums, recorders, cymbals, trumpets, guitars, and the piano. This is another area of discipline, especially where it relates to ‘band,’ where all instruments are played in unison.
WEIGHT LIFTING – Requires much physical and emotional strength. The students are attracted to this activity. Must be well disciplined with a goal in mind. Tends to build up one's physique.
NEEDLEWORK – A beginning for homemakers. You learn the basics of sewing and crafts. This activity attracts mainly females. It is also important for the male, especially the basic stitches, which can be of necessity in the future. It is a stepping stone to a future career in Tailoring or Dressmaking.
BAKING – A time of fun and learning as you mix the various ingredients and watch the beauty of the end product. Students enjoy the cup cakes, cookies, and cakes etc., prepared in this activity each week.
GARDENING – An outdoor activity where seasonal vegetables are grown. Students enjoy the atmosphere as they nurture their cucumbers, peppers, watermelon, etc.
GAMES – For those who just want to ‘hang out’…scrabble, card games, chess, backgammon, etc… a form of relaxation and fun!
WOODWORKING – A creative way to express oneself. Basic principles of using wood, carpenter tools and painting are taught. Birdhouses, table tennis paddles, benches have made it into the décor.
BEAUTIFICATION CONTEST – All schools on Eleuthera have a contest going on during specific weeks of the school year. Each year an area of campus is set aside to beautify under the guidelines of the district contest. These include naming flowers, plants, trees, planting gardens, using benches, signs, figurines and national symbols as a means to enhance the natural beauty of each campus.
YEAR BOOK – The year book, known as "The Rock," makes the year at Windermere come alive with various pictures of classmates, friends, memories and leaves a history of fun times together. The student committee with a staff advisor plans the pages and does the setup.
